Kedah FA '12: Hodak admits Kelantan were lucky to edge Kedah

PETALING JAYA: Kelantan coach Bojan Hodak admits his team were lucky to edge Kedah 2-1 in a Super League match at the Sultan Mohd IV Stadium on Saturday.

The defending champions faced a resurgent Kedah without the defensive trio of Mohd Farisham Ismail, Obinna Nwaneri, Zairul Fitrie Ishak and hotshot striker Norshahrul Idlan Tahala, who were out injured.

The Red Warriors were fortunate as Kedah defender Fazliata Taib scored an own goal before Mohd Ghaddar Mahmoud made it 2-0.

Mohd Khyril Muhymeen Zambri replied for Kedah.

“We are little bit lucky to win as we had an injury crisis,” said Hodak.

“The Kedah players showed individual brilliance but couldn’t get the goals."

“I think Kedah were under pressure after the own goal."

“We couldn’t play our normal game due to the injuries to our key players but the team showed great character.  Their never-say-die attitude once again secured us the full points.”

The Red Warriors remain six points behind league leaders Lions XII, who top the table with 47 points but have played five matches more.

Hodak is hoping his injured players recover fast as Kelantan face a tough round of matches.

However, defender Farisham is set for a lengthy spell on the treatment table after picking up an anterior cruciate ligament injury. Nigerian Nwaneri is carrying a hamstring injury while Norshahrul has a knee complaint.

“We have to be careful not to rush them as we don’t want them to get injured again,” said Hodak.
