Marlon Alex James slams Malaysian attitude to football

Former Kedah and ATM striker Marlon Alex James has criticised Malaysians for not being professional, and lacking passion, when it comes to football

Former ATM striker Marlon Alex James has lashed out at Malaysian football, saying that there is no professionalism in Malaysian football.

According to his interview with Astro Arena, he claimed that there is no passion in football, and not just at club level, but also at the federation level.

Quoting from Astro Arena, Marlon said “No one is passionate about the game, not at the clubs, not at the federation. There is no professionalism in the game. From the head to the state (FA), players as well as the youth.”

However, Marlon did speak well of his former coach B.Sathianathan, and he also expressed his love and enjoyment with the time he spent at Kedah.

“Kedah is more like the islands. I’m a 'Kampung' boy, so my wife and I really loved living there,” said the former St. Vincent & Grenadines striker.

Marlon spent almost a decade playing in the country, as he started his career in Malaysia with Selangor MK Land FC in 2004. He returned back to his hometown, but came back to Malaysia to play with Kedah in 2006, winning the treble in consecutive seasons.

After a stint in Canada, he then played for ATM in 2012, where he helped the Armed Forces get promoted to the MSL in his first season. He finished his career with the ATM and retired from football earlier this year after battling a number of injuries.
